Are you on the hunt for a simple yet delightful homemade tortilla recipe? There’s truly nothing quite like the tantalizing scent of freshly made tortillas wafting through your kitchen. Imagine biting into a warm, soft tortilla that melts in your mouth, bursting with flavor. With this easy 5-ingredient recipe, you’ll discover how to create these delicious, homemade tortillas right in your own home. Get ready to elevate your meals with this simple, mouthwatering addition!
The most obvious choice for making tortillas is to use masa, a type of corn flour. Alternatively, you can use all-purpose flour. However, my favorite option combines both types of flour. This mixture allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds: wheat flour adds flexibility to the cooked tortillas, while masa flour imparts its unique flavor.
The greatest advantage of homemade tortillas is that you can customize their texture to be as crisp or pliable as you prefer. Personally, I enjoy crisp tortillas as a snack, while the softer ones work well for enchiladas and other dishes. I often shorten the cooking time and remove them from the skillet as soon as they begin to brown around the edges.

Homemade Tortillas Ingredients:

- 1 cup masa harina (fine corn flour);
- ½ cup all-purpose flour;
- ½ tsp. salt;
- 1 tbsp. vegetable oil;
- ½ cup water.
How to make tortillas from masa harina and wheat flour:
- Sieve masa harina into a deep mixing bowl.

- Add sieved all-purpose flour to the bowl and mix.

- Heat water to warm (35-40°C) and add salt. Let the salt dissolve and then pour oil.

- Pour the liquid into the bowl with the flour mixture.

- Knead the dough until it becomes smooth with a somewhat medium-stiff consistency. As a reference, it should be stiffer than bread dough. Roll the dough for tortillas into a ball, put it into a bowl, and cover it with a kitchen towel. Let it sit for 30 minutes at room temperature.

- Divide the ball of dough into 6-8 even parts.

- Roll a small ball out of each part. Cover your working surface with plastic wrap, place a dough ball in the center, and cover it with the second sheet of plastic wrap. Roll out it into a thin disk. Get rid of plastic wrap by carefully peeling it from the tortilla. Repeat for each ball.

- Preheat the skillet on medium heat. Cook tortillas for 45 seconds to 1 minute on each side (note that the heat of each stove is different and a few of your first attempts at figuring out the time that suits you the best may fail). A good sign that tortillas are ready, they turn yellow.

- Stack tortillas on top of the other and cover them with a towel to preserve their temperature before serving (but you can always reheat them)! Enjoy!
