You won`t find more warming dish than goulash stew with thick tasty sauce. Goulash is a traditional dish for Hungarian cuisine. You will find beef and paprika among its main ingredients. But across all other European countries you can use any type of meat for making goulash stew. Today I will share a recipe for goulash where instead of beef meet we will use pork loin.

This type of stew goes perfectly well with any type of cooked grain, spaghetti and potatoes. Recipe is simple enough to follow even if you are a beginner in the kitchen. Simply prepare all the ingredients in advance. If something needs to be cleaned and chopped, then do it before you start cooking meat in the skillet. In such a way you won`t be distracted.

Ingredients for Goulash Stew:

Goulash Stew Ingredients

  • 500 g pork loin;
  • 1 onion;
  • 3 tbsps. tomato paste;
  • 1 tbsp. flour;
  • 2-3 tbsps. vegetable oil;
  • 5 whole black peppercorns;
  • 2 bay leaves;
  • 500 ml water;
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to your taste.

How to make goulash stew with pork at home:

  • Cut into small cubes pork loin.

Cut pork loin into cubes

  • Peel onion and chop it into small pieces.

  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over high heat. Add pork into the skillet and fry it for 5 minutes. Keep stirring meat cubes until each side is fried.

Add cubed meat to the skillet

  • Lower the heat to medium, add chopped onion and black peppercorns. Cook for additional 5 minutes.

  • Sprinkle a tablespoon of flour over the meat and stir until every piece of pork will be covered in it.

  • Add tomato paste; stir it in.

  • Add 2 cups of hot boiled water (or you can even use vegetable broth). Stir the mixture until tomato paste fully dissolves in liquid. Add bay leaves.

Pour 500 ml of water to the skillet

  • Wait until water boils in the skillet and then lower the heat again to minimum. Cover skillet with a lid and let the stew simmer for 30 minutes. Season tomato sauce to your liking. Add necessary amount of salt and freshly ground black pepper. There is a slight possibility that sauce can burn to the skillet. To prevent it from happening, stir goulash occasionally.

Cook meat under the lid for 30 minutes

  • Take the skillet from heat and leave it aside for about 10 minutes to rest before serving! Enjoy your meal!
