As always, the recipe has some nuances that require your attention while making millet porridge at home. Hope that you will find enough information for your experience to be at least bearable for the first time. The hardest thing for me was understanding how to cook milk in a pot with millet. How do you get that level of heat right? How often do you need to stir that porridge so as not to get it burned? I tried to include maximum knowledge of the boiling method that I had for you.

What is the water, milk, and millet ratio you use for making porridge? As a rule, I take 1 part of millet to 4 parts of liquid (2 parts of water + 2 parts of milk in this recipe). However, if you want your porridge to have a more runny consistency, add one more part of the milk.

How long do you boil millet for porridge? You boil it for 30 minutes overall, 15 minutes in water, and 15 minutes in milk.

What type of pot is best for cooking millet porridge with milk? Try choosing saucepans and pots with a thick base that evenly transfers heat to the surface. This will prevent your porridge from burning.

Sweet Millet Porridge Ingredients:

Ingredients for Millet Porridge

  • 1 cup uncooked millet;
  • 2 cups milk;
  • 2 cups water;
  • a pinch of salt;
  • sugar to your taste (1 tbsp.);
  • 1-2 tbsps. unsalted butter.

How to make millet porridge with milk for breakfast:

  • As with every grain, you should rinse the thoroughly millet before boiling it on the stove in the pot. Sometimes I use a colander and rinse millet under running water, I have placed the grain in a deep bowl, covered it with water, used my hands to stir it several times, and then drained the water. My advice would be to add water until it is clear when drained. At least three times.

Rinse millet before boiling

  • Now, add rinsed millet to the pot and cover it with the amount of water that was listed in the ingredients. Put it on the high heat on the stove.

Cover rinsed millet with water

  • When water boils, lower the heat until the water starts simmering (on my stove it is the lowest heat). Season porridge with a pinch of salt. Cover the pot with a lid. It can take up to 15 minutes to get rid of water.

Cook millet for 15 minutes

  • Pour preheated milk into the pot with boiled millet.

Add milk to the porridge

  • Wait until the milk boils and then adjust the heat so that the milk will be slightly simmering.
