Sweet Millet Porridge Ingredients:
- 1 cup uncooked millet;
- 2 cups milk;
- 2 cups water;
- a pinch of salt;
- sugar to your taste (1 tbsp.);
- 1-2 tbsps. unsalted butter.
How to make millet porridge with milk for breakfast:
- As with every grain, you should rinse thoroughly millet before boiling it on the stove in the pot. Sometimes I use colander and rinse millet under running water, today I place the grain in a deep owl, covered it with water, used hands to stir it several times and then drained the water. My advice would be to add water until it is clear when drained. At least three times.
- Now, add rinsed millet to the pot and cover it with the amount of water that was listed in the ingredients. Put it on the high heat on the stove.
- When water boils, lower the heat until water starts simmering (on my stove it is the lowest heat). Season porridge with a pinch of salt. Cover the pot with a lid. It can take up to 15 minutes to get rid of water.
- Pour preheated milk to the pot with boiled millet.
- Wait until milk boils and then adjust heat that milk will be slightly simmering.
- Cook millet porridge for additional 15 minutes on the stove. Try to stir constantly to avoid burning of porridge to the surface.
- Season porridge with desired amount of sugar and unsalted butter. Cover pot with a lid and set aside for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Enjoy your meal!
