Learn how to make this rich delicious sauce with parmesan cheese. The recipe that I am sharing with you has only three main ingredients, is pretty basic and very easy to follow.
Alfredo sauce is a rich, thick cream-based sauce with flavorful Parmesan cheese and delicate butter. It is widely used in classic Italian and American cuisines. You won’t believe how versatile is this sauce. Of course, you have your classic Fettuccine Alfredo. However, I have other perfect options where you can use this easy but at the same time delicious sauce.
If you wish to add extra creaminess to your salad of choice instead of the dressing in the recipe. Moreover, what a perfect dip for potato wedges or squid rings, as the flavor it adds will be so distinct. It will be a perfect substitute for sour cream or plain hard cream as the ingredient in different types of recipes (as casseroles, pizzas, roasted vegetables, recipes with fish or meat).
Here are my ideas of recipes where you can use Alfredo sauce instead of other creamy ingredients:
- Porcupine Meatballs (use Alfredo sauce instead of sour cream);
- Potato Croquettes with Minced Meat (serve with Alfredo sauce);
- Lazy Cabbage Rolls (use Alfredo sauce instead of sour cream);
- Potato Pancakes with Summer Squash (serve with Alfredo sauce).
Alfredo Sauce Ingredients:
- 200 ml half-and-half cream;
- 50 g parmesan;
- 20 g butter, unsalted;
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to your taste.
How to make homemade Alfredo sauce:
- Half-and-half cream should be at room temperature for the recipe. Take it out of the fridge in advance and let it sit on the counter at least for half an hour.
- Put a skillet on medium heat and melt butter. Make sure not to burn it (if you have a strong stove lower the heat to a minimum).
- Pour cream to melted butter in the skillet and wait until liquid starts boiling. If you still have the heat on medium, lower it. Therefore, that cream will be gently simmering.
- Keep stirring cream constantly while you are cooking. Wait until it thickens. Add salt and pepper.
- Shred parmesan cheese with a fine grater and add it to the skillet with thickened cream. I like to grate cheese immediately before adding to the dish. I think it prevents parmesan from losing its rich aroma.
- Keep skillet on the minimum heat until cheese fully melts. Do not forget to stir to prevent our sauce from sticking and burning!
- Let the sauce cool down a bit before serving! Enjoy!

I hope that you found the recipe helpful and tried to make my version of Alfredo Sauce at home. Many dishes go perfectly well with its rich flavor and creamy texture. The final tip that I can share with you is to be very careful with half-and-half cream when you pour it to the skillet and heat it. Keep stirring it on any occasion to prevent any burning.
